79-year-old Briton Edgar Charles Frederick was killed in a serious traffic accident in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Thursday, reports the newspaper"The Star".

According to the police, the Briton had just tried to cross the crosswalk in front of the Adams Arcade shopping center on the busy Ngong Road. But the pensioner saw the presidential convoy, which was traveling at high speed and under blue lights, far too late.

Witnesses reported how the man was hit by the vehicle in front, an armored SUV, and hurled through the air. The 79-year-old died on the spot and first responders who had rushed to the scene could do nothing to help him.

Unaffected by this, the convoy simply drove on without providing assistance. President William Ruto gave a speech to supporters in the Kibera district on the same day.

Bodyguard arrested after death drive in Nairobi

There is great excitement in Kenya following the incident. Government vehicles are repeatedly involved in fatal accidents in the East African country.

The driver who died was temporarily taken into custody. In initial questioning, the bodyguard stated that he had not stopped because the president's limousine was only "a few meters" away. The security regulations forbid it. He therefore drove on.

It was later said that the heavy off-road vehicle was at the end of the convoy. The president had already given his speech. The bodyguard is now at large again.

According to the BBC, Edgar Charles Frederick, who was involved in the accident, was traveling to Kenya to visit his sister and nephew who live there.

The local police have expressed a desire to investigate the incident.
