The 43-year-old was active on various dating apps, including Tinder, Hinge and Bumble, where she pretended to have great feelings for older men under the names Aurora Flores, Aurora Velasco and Aurora Alvarez.

She met with the individuals, eventually drugged them and obtained personal information such as their bank, social security and retirement accounts, People magazine reported, citing the Associated Press.

Spencer Evans, the agent in charge of the case, describes the victims as "people who were looking for love and came across something far more sinister". He describes the Aurora Phelps case as a "love scam narcotics".

The FBI reports in a statement that eleven people fell victim to the love scam and is looking for other people who were connected to the villainess. The agency emphasizes that Phelps not only targeted older men, but also women and people of all ages.

Three victims died as a result of exploitation. One man, for example, was found dead in a hotel in Mexico City after being brought across the border under heavy sedation.

Another male was found dead on the bathroom floor in Guadalajara.

His daughter had been unable to make contact with him after a date with Phelps. Like her, other relatives of people exploited by Phelps also suffered the same fate.

If the fraudster is found guilty of all charges such as wire fraud, bank fraud or kidnapping, some of which resulted in death, the 43-year-old will face a life sentence.
