As 9News reports, 33-year-old Marissa Gee went on a hike in the Blue Mountains to enjoy nature and spend the night in a tent at a nearby campsite.

But the adventure took an unexpected turn: Marissa apparently got lost and was declared missing on December 13 - there was no trace of the woman.

The Blue Mountains police were informed immediately and began an intensive search for her.

Her vehicle was found, but there was no sign of her for days. Despite her extensive experience as a hiker, it was completely out of character for Marissa not to come forward.

Given the extreme heat in the region, both the authorities and her family grew increasingly concerned.

For six days, the 33-year-old was on the move in the impassable forest area, with no contact with the outside world.

But she was finally rescued: at around 2.30 p.m. (local time) on Thursday, a helicopter crew from the Rural Fire Service discovered the missing hiker and brought her to safety.

Fortunately, Marissa only had abrasions and was slightly dehydrated when she was taken to hospital. Her survival skills had helped her in the wilderness - she was able to find water sources and survive the days in the forest.

The Australian was overjoyed and full of gratitude to her rescuers who had rescued her from this hopeless situation.
