Poisoned Easter surprise: family snacks, child (†7) dies
Maranhão (Brazil) - In the Brazilian region of Maranhão, a sweet Easter gift turned into a nightmare. A poisoned chocolate egg cost the life of a child (†7).

What appeared to be a lovingly wrapped Easter surprise turned out to be a deadly trap.
Last Wednesday, the family of Mirian Lira (32) received a chocolate egg delivered by motorcycle courier, as Globo reports. The egg was accompanied by a seemingly harmless greeting card: "With love, for Mirian Lira. Happy Easter."
That same evening, Mirian also received a mysterious phone call. An unknown voice, who did not want to reveal her identity, was on the other end of the line. Mirian's question as to whether she had sent the egg was followed by the ominous reply: "You'll find out who."
Despite the uneasy feeling, the mother opened the parcel and both she and her two children tasted the chocolate.
A short time later, her seven-year-old son Luís felt increasingly unwell. The boy was taken to hospital, but help came too late. He died just a few hours later.
Investigations are in full swing
Mirian herself and her daughter (13) also soon showed symptoms, including shortness of breath and a bluish discoloration of the hands. Both are currently still in hospital fighting for their lives.
Jordélia Pereira Barbosa (35), the ex-partner of Mirian's current partner, is now at the center of the investigation. The Brazilian police are said to have already arrested the woman, as Globo reports.
It is suspected that she prepared the Easter egg with a poisonous substance in order to take revenge on the family.
