Pregnant by 16-year-old: Minister for Children resigns after scandal
Iceland - The Icelandic Minister of Education and Children (58) resigned from her post when shocking details about her were revealed.

As the Icelandic news website Iceland Monitor reports, Ásthildur Lóa Thórsdóttir began a secret relationship with the then 15-year-old Eirík Ásmundsson when she was 22. When he was 16, they had sex for the first time, after which she became pregnant.
The two met in a religious group where Ásthildur reportedly worked as a counselor. The Icelander, however, claims to have merely been part of the group herself. The teenager is said to have sought refuge there from his difficult parental home.
Ásthildur concealed the child 's father from the public for decades.
Now, however, the truth came to light when a relative of the now 52-year-old Eirík contacted Iceland's Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir last week - triggering a wave of outrage.
Eirík is said to have stalked Ásthildur

In her statement, Ásthildur tried to defend herself. She claimed that Eirík had already had sexual experiences with older women, while she herself had not had any experiences at that time.
He had also stalked her before sexual intercourse after she wanted to end the relationship. She finally gave in out of pity for him.
During her pregnancy, Eirík is said to have lost interest in her. He never tried to get to know their son, who is now 35 years old.
The scandal eventually forced the 58-year-old to resign as Minister for Education and Children's Affairs.
However, despite the massive public pressure, she does not want to give up her seat in parliament. She has represented the South constituency in parliament since 2021.
