Student has an accident while swimming: How her boyfriend reacts is heartbreaking

Texas (USA) - Brooklyn Boyer and Alan Mann fell in love at university and initially met in secret. When the two Americans had only been a couple for a week, Brooklyn had a tragic accident. Alan became her lifesaver, and years later he asked her to marry him.

The student had only just completed his training as a lifeguard and already he had to put his skills to the test. And with the love of his life too.

As KCBD reported, Brooklyn went swimming with fellow students - including Alan - in the summer of 2020. The atmosphere was great, but then disaster struck: the student hit her head on the bottom of the pool and was immediately immobilized. Alan recognized the seriousness of the situation, pulled Brooklyn out of the water and tended to her until the paramedics arrived.

At the hospital, the young woman received the shocking diagnosis: Brooklyn had shattered a vertebra in her accident and her spinal cord had been crushed. The American was paralyzed!

The student then spent a whole three months in hospital. She was not alone, Alan never left her side.

Five years later, the two are still a couple and look as much in love in pictures as they did on the first day. At a belated Valentine's Day dinner, Alan finally put his money where his mouth was: he asked his sweetheart to marry him.

"I kept telling myself that it wasn't going to happen. And then he got down on one knee. I've been sitting there all day looking at the ring. I'm just so, so happy," Brooklyn said in an interview with KCBD.

From then until now, the engaged couple have had a rocky road. The young American fought her way back to life, overcoming her terrible accident. "Witnessing first-hand what she was able to achieve and do despite the injury was simply incredible," said Alan.

Brooklyn now goes about her daily life in an electric wheelchair. She couldn't have wished for a better partner than Alan. "He's just a blessing. A blessing straight from God."
