Tragedy on a dream vacation: Two young women die after poison gas accident in hostel

Colombo (Sri Lanka) - British influencer Ebony McIntosh (†24) had been eagerly awaiting this trip for many months. She wanted to escape the cold, rainy weather and fly to the paradise island of Sri Lanka. But shortly after her arrival, she died in her hostel room.

As the British newspaper"Daily Mail" reports, the tragedy occurred four days after the 24-year-old landed on the island.

She and her roommate were admitted to hospital last Saturday. Both had symptoms such as vomiting, nausea and shortness of breath.

Ebony's roommate is believed to be a German backpacker. More details about her identity are not yet known.

The doctors at the hospital did everything they could to keep the two young women alive, but this battle was lost after just a few hours. McIntosh and her roommate died shortly afterwards.

The exact cause of death of the two women has not yet been officially confirmed. Nevertheless, there are some reports from Sri Lanka that speak of poisoning with a dangerous pesticide gas.

A neighboring room is said to have been treated with a pesticide against bedbugs around 72 hours before the tragic incident. In order to investigate further, the hostel was temporarily closed by the local authorities .

Meanwhile, Ebony's younger sister India is campaigning for Ebony's body to be flown back to her hometown of Derby. She posted a heartbreaking message on Instagram .

Among other things, she wrote: "I will think of you every day and always carry you with me in my heart no matter where I go."

Donation target reached after just a few days

India has set up a GoFundMe page to finance the repatriation of her big sister's body. Her story has reached and touched many people, so much so that the fundraising goal of 40,000 dollars has already been exceeded by 3000 dollars.
