In 2024, TikToker Zara Braley bought a house in the US state of Maine . What she certainly didn't realize at the time was that the building had a secret!
When she bought it, there was a ceiling-high, dark bookshelf in the bedroom, which didn't really catch Zara's attention at first. It wasn't until last Tuesday that the resident noticed that the shelf could be opened in the middle. A hidden door appeared behind it.
Strangely, the frame had been completely taped up, as if someone had wanted to seal the space behind it.
In a video Zara made of her discovery, she asked uncertainly: "Should I open it? What if there are squirrels or something? I don't know." It wasn't until her brother arrived, armed with a "head torch and a sense of adventure", that the American finally went on a tour of discovery.
Behind the white, taped-up door, the two first came across another, much older wooden door. Behind it, a hallway and staircase opened up, leading to a previously unknown room above them.
Brother and sister find secret room
The siblings finally came across a large attic when they went upstairs. "There's a lot of space up here, dude," said Zara's brother, overwhelmed.
The find was quickly clicked millions of times on TikTok . While some users associate the room with ghosts , others believe that there is a far more realistic explanation for the hidden room under Zara's roof.
They believe that the staircase in the house, which was apparently built in the Victorian era, leads to the servants' quarters of the time.
Many suggest that Zara convert the attic into a cozy room, such as a library.
However, other viewers are also concerned that there may be some kind of harmful substances in the secret room, which is why the door was sealed. "Please wear a mask up there," writes one user. "It was probably covered up because it might not pass inspection due to hazards."
