Bodybuilder (†30) collapses and dies during a competition

Campo Grande (Brazil) - The bodybuilding scene is mourning the death of Wanderson da Silva Moreira! The Brazilian suddenly keeled over during a competition on Saturday and died at the age of just 30.

As reported by"O Globo", the athlete was taking part in the "Pantanal Contest", a preliminary competition for Mr. Olympia, in the Brazilian city of Campo Grande.

Immediately before his performance, he collapsed backstage and suffered a cardiac arrest. Rescue workers fought for his life for an hour and a half, but to no avail.

Eyewitnesses reported that Wanderson had looked unsteady on his feet beforehand and that the jury and some members of the audience had seen him collapse. According to a friend, the powerhouse also suffered from high blood pressure and complained of feeling unwell earlier in the day.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the news of the death of our great athlete Wanderson, who had health problems during a competition yesterday, could no longer defend himself and died," a statement from the organizers read.

Surprisingly, the muscle show was not canceledafter the tragic accident , but continued as planned.

"I don't have the words to describe the deep sadness and shock I still feel," his coach wrote on social media following the death of his protégé.

"He was not only an athlete, but also a great friend, a family man, a man with a big heart who was always ready to help those who needed him," he added.

Wanderson is survived by his wife Jaquelliny Carvalho and two children.

A few days ago, he shared a photo with his wife on Instagram, writing: "Today I came here without you, but I will do my best to bring home another trophy."
