The French international keeper had run out of his box in the 52nd minute of the match and collided with his teammate Álex Jiménez (19), of all people, outside the six-yard box.

Both fell to the ground and the players waved the medical staff onto the pitch in a flash. The scenes that unfolded there did not look good at all. Maignan initially lay motionless, while several team-mates and opposing players tried to put the goalkeeper in the recovery position.

After a few minutes of treatment, it was at least possible to see that the Frenchman was conscious. As he was stretchered off the pitch in front of the fans and Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic (43), he held both hands to his head.

Maignan was immediately taken to hospital for detailed examinations and had to stay there overnight. According to DAZN Italia, he suffered head trauma.

At the time of the collision, AC were already leading 2-0 and Maignan was replaced by the Italian Marco Sportiello (32) in the box.

In the end, the visitors won the game 4:0, but that was a side note in view of the concern about Maignan. When it was initially unclear on the pitch how the Frenchman was doing, teammate Tammy Abraham (27) got down on his knees on the pitch and prayed for his colleague - a moving scene!

At the start of the game, Maignan was booed every time he touched the ball in Udine, but when he was carried off, the fans throughout the stadium rose to their feet and applauded the seriously injured goalkeeper.

The French international keeper has been between the posts at AC Milan for almost four years and has already won the league and the Super Cup with the club.
